Annihilation, Book Three by Keith Giffen

I do not want to give away the ending, but Thanos, Drax, Galactus, Nova, Quasar, Silver Surfer, and so many more characters play a role in the events that lead up to the ending. The Annihilation Wave continues its path of destruction across the universe.

Luckily, before this happens the Xandarian Worldmind downloads itself into Richard Rider, basically giving him all the power of the Nova Corps and making him infinitely stronger. They are unsuccessful in defeating the impossibly large arm of Annihilus and not only are the Nova Corps defeated but their home planet Xandar is destroyed. The Nova Coprs gather on Xandar to prepare for the wave and rally the forces to fight. Soon cosmic beings from around the universe get wind of the disturbance including many of the Heralds of Galactus and the Nova Corp s. His wave immediately destroys the surrounding planets and all life that inhabit them.

Regardless Giffen is a very accomplished writer and his work on this series is superb.Īnnihilus and his group of warriors known as the Annihilation Wave have breached the barrier that connects the universe and the Negative Zon e, which is where Annihilus is from. Back in 1986 he was accused of “swiping,” which basically means taking a scene drawn by someone else and using it as your own. His career has had a little controversy over the years. He is most known for the co-creation of the DC character LOBO, the run on Legion of Superheroes, Blue Beetle, and Justice League. Giffen has had quite the career in comics and has written stories for DC, Marvel, Valiant, and Boom Studios. On Wikipedia there are several writers, but from what I can tell Keith Giffen seems to be the writer given credit for the main story. The reason I am saying this is because it is difficult to determine who the writer of the series is. There are a plethora of different characters an d story lines that are briefly touched on then never mentioned again throughout the series. I knew I had to have it and purchased the whole three trade series immediately.īe fore I get started with this one it is important to mention that there is a ton going on in these trades, and by a ton I mean these books could be broken down into several different stories all by themselves. So I did a little research and found out what the story was about, which is very unlike me I know, and also where it fell in terms of other Marvel events. At first I did not think it was a Marvel book, but when I began to study the covers I was blown away as some of the characters are so expertly drawn in a very real stylized art form that I did not recogn ize them. The cover art was absolutely amazing and quickly peeked my interest. About two to three years ago when I started to get back into comics I saw these trades in my comic shop.
